海兵第１５２空中給油輸送中隊（VMGR-152）に所属するKC-130Jスーパーハーキュリーズ２機が、移駐の航空機第一陣として普天間基地を７月８日、出発し、岩国基地へ飛来する。これをもって、沖縄より本土への公式な部隊移転を開始する。

これは、在日米軍を再編し活動を配分する目標に近づくための大きな一歩である。空中給油機の移動は、過去数年にわたる施設整備、また今後も部隊全体の移駐完了へ向けて続く調整とあわせ、沖縄に関する特別行動委員会の最終報告（SACO最終報告）および２００６年の米軍再編ロードマップの実現において、重要な節目となる成果を意味する。海兵第１５２空中給油輸送中隊ならびに関連する航空機、装備、人員と家族の岩国への移駐は、米軍が日本政府、沖縄県、普天間基地周辺地域、同様に岩国市と岩国基地周辺地域とともに築いてきた２国間の確固としてたゆまぬ協力関係の賜物である。

KC-130J部隊の移駐は、米軍兵力を統合し再編するにあたり相応のステップでありながら、かつ効果的な危機対応能力を備えるものである。海兵第１５２空中給油輸送中隊の移転によって、米海兵隊のアジア太平洋地域におけるより地理的に広範囲に配分されたかたちで即応能力を備えた態勢を得るなど、各方面は数々の恩恵を受けることになる。

海兵第１５２空中給油輸送中隊は岩国基地に所属することになるが、海兵隊の運用上の必要性、および沖縄に拠点を置く海兵隊地上部隊と関連しての任務により、KC-130Jは沖縄へ飛来し、引き続き適切な支援を提供する。具体的には、KC-130Jは普天間基地、伊江島、嘉手納基地、および沖縄上空、周辺の訓練空域などを、今後の運用、演習、訓練のため使用することがある。これはひとつには、海兵空地任務部隊（MAGTF）の地上部隊が沖縄に置かれていることによる。訓練は、日米同盟のもと定められた日米相互協力および安全保障条約の目的を果たすため、パイロットや搭乗員にとって必要不可欠なものである。

日本の報道機関の関心に応え、また地元にも有益なものとして、海兵第３遠征軍・海兵隊太平洋基地統合報道部および岩国基地報道部は、岩国基地と普天間基地内において第１５２空中給油輸送中隊所属２機の第一陣移動を取材する機会を設ける。

報道公開についての詳細は、情報が一旦提供された後であっても、日時などが直前に変更される可能性があることをご了承いただきたい。米軍報道部では、予定に変更が生じた場合、できるだけすみやかに報道機関に通知する。

VMGR-152 begins transfer to MCAS Iwakuni July 8

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan (Jun 25, 2014) 

The first two KC-130J Super Hercules aircraft with Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron-152 (VMGR-152) are scheduled to depart Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Futenma July 8 and fly to MCAS Iwakuni, beginning the official transfer of the squadron from Okinawa to mainland Japan.

This is a major step in the effort to realign the presence and distribute the activities of U.S. forces in Japan.  The movement of these aircraft, along with the work over the past years to prepare facilities, and the work which will continue in the future to complete the move of the entire squadron, represents an important milestone accomplishment in the implementation of the final report of the Special Action Committee on Okinawa (SACO final report) and the 2006 Roadmap.  The transfer of VMGR-152 and its associated aircraft, equipment, personnel and dependents, to Iwakuni also highlights our steady and consistent bilateral cooperation with the Government of Japan (GOJ), the Okinawa Prefectural Government (OPG), and the communities surrounding MCAS Futenma, as well as Iwakuni City Government and the communities surrounding MCAS Iwakuni.

The KC-130J squadron transfer is an appropriate step in consolidating and realigning forces, and still be able to effectively respond to crises. The transfer of VMGR-152 benefits all in several ways, including a U.S. Marine Corps force posture in the Asia-Pacific that is operationally ready and more geographically distributed.

Although VMGR-152 will be based in MCAS Iwakuni, due to Marine Corps operational requirements and inter-related missions with our Okinawa-based ground forces, KC-130J aircraft will routinely fly into Okinawa and continue to provide proper support.  Specifically, the KC-130J aircraft will continue to use MCAS Futenma, Ie Shima, Kadena Air Base and aerial training areas in and around Okinawa in support of future operations, exercises and training, in part because ground forces of the Marine Air Ground Task Force are based in Okinawa. Training is an essential requirement for pilots and crews to support the objectives of the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security under the Japan U.S. defense alliance.
