岩国基地は、中国四国防衛局と連携のもと、基地内の工事および工事に関連する動きが地元に与える影響を軽減すべく出来うる限りの努力を継続しており、この中には交通渋滞の問題も含まれている。これら一連の対策の一つの例として、期間限定の工事車両専用高架橋が岩国基地内にこのほど完成した。これにより、基地に立ち入る工事関連車両は、より直接的で障害のない経路で工事現場へ到達できるようになる。１０月１日に開通を予定しているこの高架橋は、中国四国防衛局との緊密な調整のもとに設計されたもので、基地に向かう工事関連車両が引き起こしていた基地の外側での交通渋滞や遅延などを大きく軽減する見通し。

MCAS Iwakuni opens a temporary overpass on base

Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, in conjunction with Chugoku-Shikoku Defense Bureau, continues to make every possible effort to reduce the impact of on-base construction and related activities on the local community, to include the issue of traffic congestion. As another example of these initiatives, a temporary construction-vehicle-only overpass was recently completed aboard Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, providing construction vehicles entering the base a more direct, obstacle-free route to their work sites. The overpass, scheduled to open Oct. 1, was designed in close coordination with the CSDB, and should significantly reduce off-base traffic delays, back-ups and other such road congestion caused by base-bound construction vehicles.
