米海兵隊岩国航空基地は２０２１年９月３０日、地域の安定と安全保障に寄与する運用に携わる護衛艦「いずも」とその乗組員を、歓迎とともに受け入れました。

米海兵隊の中で港湾施設と滑走路を併せ持つ唯一の基地施設として、岩国基地は、日本の自衛隊機の陸揚げから日本が非常時に見舞われた際の人道支援、災害援助物資の運搬にいたるまで、日米同盟に貢献する使用実績を積み重ねてまいりました。

岩国基地司令ランス・ルイス大佐は、「いずも」艦長の川内健治１等海佐、ならびに第１護衛隊群司令の小牟田秀覚海将補の岩国への訪問を、喜びとともにお迎えしました。

JS Izumo Arrival

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan (September 30, 2021) –

MCAS Iwakuni welcomed the JS Izumo and its crew in support of regional security and stability operations on 30 September, 2021.

As the only Marine Corps installation with a collocated harbor and airfield, MCAS Iwakuni has a long history of usage to benefit the U.S.-Japan alliance, from the offload of Japan Self-Defense Force aircraft to the delivery of humanitarian aid and disaster assistance in Japan’s times of need.

Col. Lance Lewis, commanding officer of MCAS Iwakuni, welcomed Capt. Kawauchi Kenji, commanding officer of Izumo, and Rear Adm. Komuta Shukaku, Commander Escort Flotilla One, upon their arrival in Iwakuni.
