昨年に至るまで続いてきた慣習からの新たな一歩として、また接受国日本の地元の皆様にとっての正月３が日の重要性を鑑み、米海兵隊岩国航空基地司令は、岩国市及び私たちのパートナーである関係各部隊の司令部との協議の上、1月1日～3日、岩国航空基地において極めて最小限に絞り込んだ任務上不可欠な飛行活動に限り許可する指示を出した。この指示はすべての軍用機に適用するが、広く地域の皆様にとって大切な民間の航空機の飛行には適用せず、該当期間中予定通りに運航がなされるものである。当基地において実施されるすべての飛行は、日本国とアメリカ合衆国との間の相互協力及び安全保障条約に定められたアメリカ軍の防衛義務を遂行すべく、その能力を保証する高いレベルの軍事的即応態勢を維持するうえで不可欠なものであり、基地を受け入れてくださっている地元の皆様の引き続いてのご理解とご支援に対し感謝申し上げる。 以上

MCAS Iwakuni announces intentions for New Year holiday period

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan (December 27, 2018)

In a departure from previous years' practices, and in recognition of the importance of the New Year holiday to our local host-nation communities, the commanding officer of MCAS Iwakuni, in consultation with Iwakuni City and our partnering military commands, has directed that only the absolute minimum level of mission-essential flight activity will be permitted aboard the air station from 1-3 January. This applies to all military aircraft, but does not apply to commercial aviation flights, which, given their importance to the broader community, will operate as scheduled throughout this period. We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our host-nation communities, as all flights conducted by the air station are critical to maintaining the high level of military readiness that guarantees our ability to fulfill our defense obligations under the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security.
