岸防衛大臣が岩国基地訪問

岸信夫防衛大臣が本日、岩国基地を視察し、基地司令のランス・ルイス大佐と面会の上、日米同盟の一端を担う基地の役割について意見交換しました。

ルイス司令は防衛大臣として初となる岩国基地への公式訪問を歓迎し、日米二国間の安全保障を堅持するという岩国基地の役割について話しあう機会に感謝の意を表しました。

訪問中、岸防衛大臣の一行は基地司令より概況説明を受け、基地内を視察して回りました。基地の概況説明では、アメリカ軍と日本の自衛隊との間で共用される基地の様々な資産について説明がなされました。

日米双方のリーダーは、今後の安全保障協力の重要性や基地内に日米双方の存在を維持していく価値について強調し再確認しました。

Defense Minister Kishi visit MCAS Iwakuni

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan (Oct. 24, 2020) – 

Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi toured MCAS Iwakuni and met with Col. Lance Lewis, the air station commanding officer, today to discuss the role of the air station in support of the U.S.-Japan Alliance.

Lewis welcomed the Defense Minister on his first official visit in this role to MCAS Iwakuni and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to discuss the air station’s role in preserving bilateral security.

During the visit, the Defense Minister and official party received a command overview brief from the commanding officer and toured the air station. The overview brief highlighted the multiple air station assets shared between the U.S. military and Japan Self Defense Force.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of future security cooperation and the value of maintaining a bilateral presence onboard the air station.
