Scott receives an Excellent on largest Consolidated Unit Inspection

1 Sep 2011 | Staff Sgt. Stephenie Wade

After months of preparation and in what was the Air Force's largest Consolidated Unit Inspection to date, the 375th Air Mobility Wing received an overall Excellent grade for their efforts.

"I can't tell you how proud I am of you," said Col. Michael Hornitschek, 375th AMW commander. "This team ... accomplished not just an 'Excellent' but essentially an 'Excellent +', as close to an 'Outstanding' as it gets."

For the CUI, the wing faced six separate inspections in addition to the originally scheduled Compliance Inspection, or CI. Some of the inspections began even before all 180 members of the Air Mobility Command Inspector General team came to Scott Aug. 22. Others such the Aircrew Standardization and Evaluation Visit, or ASEV, will continue for at least another month.

In addition to the CI and ASEV, other inspections include the Air Traffic System Evaluation Program, or ATSEP; Standardization and Evaluation Program of Weather Operations, or SEPWO; Logistics Compliance Assessment Program, or LCAP; Health Services Inspection, or HSI; Environmental and Occupational Health Compliance Assessment Management Program, or EOHCAMP.

Ratings for these areas are:

ASEV: The inspection is ongoing.

ATSEP: Satisfactory.

SEPWO: Excellent.

LCAP: Outstanding.

HSI: Outstanding. (A tie for highest grade the inspectors said they have seen in 10 years.)

EOHCAMP: Satisfactory.

Col. Andrew Molnar, the AMC/IG team chief, addressed the crowd in the base theater during the outbrief, and recognized the IG team leads for the various inspections efforts as well as the wing leadership for hosting the teams.

"Your commander believed in you and had faith in you because he's seen the hard work and dedication you provide to our nation ... and his faith is justified. Gen. [Raymond] Johns, Jr., (AMC commander) can present you to any combatant commander and you will perform brilliantly."

Brig. Gen. Steven Arquiette, the new AMC/IG, also shared his praise for the wing's effort and for the IG team's cooperation with such a large inspection. He said their team has a lot of good things to take back to make sure the rest of the Air Force can conduct future CUIs, which will ultimately save the Air Force time and resources through this consolidated effort.

"Everybody wants to win, but it's not the will to win that makes you a great team, it's the will to prepare," said the general. "You've done a great job in preparing for this inspection; and not just for this inspection, but we see it in the work you do day in and day out. The things that our teams saw and reported back show that you are an extremely strong team and have something to be extremely proud of."

After the IG team left, Hornitschek took the microphone and yelled, "You are the best team in the world!" to the applause and cheers of the wing members.

"The inspectors reiterated repeatedly what an incredibly professional team we have with great attitudes. You all absolutely understand what it means to be in a Showcase wing. You understand what excellence means. And you understand why it is so important to do what you do every single day."

"This is a great validation to the command that they can rely on us for outstanding customer service, for Showcase support and for being there when they need us to be there. It was a universal effort by more than 2,500 people who made this happen. All I can simply say is thank you for what you have done. You have created accolades that are permanent and enduring, accolades that many people share."

A celebration picnic is today at the softball pavilion across from the main firehouse (inclement weather location is Hangar 3) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All 375 AMW members are invited to attend, there will be live music, free food, and it will be an alternate duty location for 375th AMW civilians.
