米海兵隊岩国航空基地 - 5月20日、米海兵隊岩国航空基地に入港する強襲揚陸艦トリポリ（LHA7）。岩国基地は全海兵隊施設の中で唯一、また日本国内の米軍基地の中で唯一、港湾施設と滑走路を同じ施設内に持ち合わせる基地であり、この地理上の場所をいかし演習や地域の安全保障のため海軍海兵隊の進化した統合運用を提供するよう位置づけられている。トリポリは主にF-35Bを中心とした航空運用を支援する艦船で、現在は第７艦隊の管轄する地域内で同盟国やパートナー国との相互運用性を高めるため活動しており、インド洋から太平洋地域の平和と安定を守る即応態勢を整えた兵力としての任務を果たしている。（写真：アイザック・オロスコ兵長）
